Geeti Kavi Birth Centenary

SONARI, July 13, 2003 – The birth centenary of Geeti Kavi Parvati Prasad Baruva will be observed with a year-long programme which will start on August 19 next. In this regard, a public meeting was held recently in Sonari Chah Karmachari Sangha office premises under the auspices of ‘Samalaya’, a socio-cultural and sports-oriented organisation. The meeting, which was presided over by Sri Bishnu Prasad Dutta, a prominent citizen and principal of Sonari Commerce College, held threadbare discussions on organising various programmes at various places with a year-long time table.

The proposed programmes include a workshop on Parvati Sangeet, publication of ‘Swaralipi’ of Parvati Sangeet, making of a documentary based on the life of the Geeti Kavi, publication of colour photographs of Geeti Kavi, installation of a statue of Geeti Kavi at Sonari, construction of an auditorium after the name of Parvati Prasad, reprinting of Parvati Prasad’s ‘rasanavali’, publication of souvenir, State-level one-act play competition and various other competitions among students.

A celebration committee was formed with Bishnu Prasad Dutta as president, Gadadhar Chutia as working president, Suresh Das and Dr Rajen Gogoi as vice-presidents, Debajyoti Gogoi as general secretary, Dipok Sharma and Utpal Gogoi as assistant secretaries and Bipin Sharma as treasurer

Birth Centenary Celebrations of Parvati Prasad Baruva Begin

SONARI, Aug 24, 2003 — The year-long programme of the birth centenary of Geetikavi Parvati Prasad Baruva with a sraddhanjali sabha. Dr Nagen Saikia, ex-president, Asam Sahitya Sabha presided over the meeting held on this occasion at Sonari college auditorium. Mahesh Bhattacharjee, ex-secretary, Jorhat Sahitya Sabha inaugurated the meeting while Sarat Chandra Borkatoky, PWD minister and chief patron of celebration committee delivered the welcome address. Borkatoky assured to install a statue of the Geetikavi in front of BP Baruva Memorial Higher Secondary School playground.

 Dr Ananda Bormudoi, lecturer, English department, Dibrugarh University and Dr Anil Saikia, lecturer Moran College addressed the meeting as distinguished guests. Smti Gayatri Baruva, Deputy Commissioner Sivasagar; Ajit Kumar Bordoloi, ADC, Sivasagar and Ranjit Kumar Bhattacharjee, SDO (Civil) Charaideo also present on the occasion.

 Earlier, in the morning, a procession with Surbahini was taken out in the town.
